چکیده

Abstract On 2022 July 13, NASA released to the whole world data obtained by James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Early Release Observations (ERO). These are first set of science-grade from this long-awaited facility, marking beginning a new era in astronomy. In study early universe, JWST will allow us push far beyond z ≈ 11, redshift boundary previously imposed 1.7 μ m red cutoff Hubble (HST). contrast, JWST’s NIRCam reaches ∼5 m. Among ERO targets there is nearby galaxy cluster SMACS 0723-73, which massive and has been long recognized as potential “cosmic telescope” amplifying background galaxies. The six-band observations on target have covered an additional flanking field not boosted gravitational lensing, also sees HST. Here we report result our search candidate objects at > 11 using these data. total, 87 such identified standard “dropout” technique. all detected multiple bands therefore cannot be spurious. For most them, their multiband colors inconsistent with known types contaminants. If dropout signature interpreted expected Lyman break, it implies that 11–20. large number high redshifts favored predictions demands further investigations. spectroscopy critical.

The James Webb Space Telescope

The scientific capabilities of the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) fall into four themes. The End of the Dark Ages: First Light and Reionization theme seeks to identify the first luminous sources to form and to determine the ionization history of the universe. The Assembly of Galaxies theme seeks to determine how galaxies and the dark matter, gas, stars, metals, morphological structures, and ...

Studying Resolved Stellar Populations with the James Webb Space Telescope

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will be an exciting, highly capable tool, able to make important contributions to studies of stellar populations in nearby galaxies, including our own. JWST observations will contribute to: (1) the study of the star formation histories of nearby galaxies, exploiting the large lever arm provided by visibleinfrared colors; (2) the derivation of the properties...
